I woke up this morning to dark grey skies
The birds feeling blue as I can hear their cries.
I wondered why the Earth was not feeling well
I wondered why the sky turned black and it fell.
Tears of the virgins fell down like rain
The people of Jerusalem started to complain.
I rose my eyes to see
The reason behind the misery.
Oh I turned my eyes to see
The King of kings stranded, alone like a cat on a tree.
I ran as fast as my feet allowed me
To embrace and help thee.
The King of kings has been betrayed by His own world
Like an unwanted boulder you were hurled.
How can the world treat its creator so cruelly?
How can the world treat its ruler so harshly?
Yet I looked into your eyes, my Lord, gleaming
Betrayed eyes still so strongly beaming.
You opened your hands and laid yourself down
Nailed, bloody and wearing your thorny crown.
They raised you up and praised their slaughter.
Vinegar they gave you, though you asked for water.
I watched you lay down and surrender
Gave your love and life for every gender.
A tear of grief fell down from your dad’s eye
He broke down the Earth and trembled the sky.
The trees bowed down and praised your offering
Horror and dislocation replaced the blooming spring.
The birds and animals felt left out
They were eaten by haziness and doubt.
I came closer to you, wanting to unite with your peace
Once I touched your wounds I couldn’t release.
They held you and put you in a coffin
Dressed in white, they thought they’ll win.
Instead, you kept on rolling stones
And gave back life to dead bones.
You conquered with your power death
And gave back each person their breath.
The sad flowers bloomed again and came back to life
The birds and animals came back alive.
You rose, my Lord, after three days
The angels, the skies and I started to praise.
Hallelujah to the King of kings that gave me back my freedom
Hallelujah to Jesus who broke the chains of slavery for every man.
I looked at him as he glowed with sacredness
Wondering what did I do to deserve this.
Your death gave us life, Lord
So I’ll preach with every vocal chord.
I’ll preach that my God is an undying God
And for that I’ll always stay awed.
